Muscovado industry in the Province of Antique dates back as early as the 18th century.
Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda, a staunch advocate for MSME development, supports organizations like the Laua-an Multi Purpose Cooperative (LMPC) of the Municipality of Laua-an, which is home to the most modern muscovado processing plant in the whole of Panay.
Through the DTI’s Shared Service Facilities (SSF), the LMPC are provided with packaging equipment and market exposure by inviting them to different national fairs like the Department Of Trade And Industry‘s National Arts and Crafts Fair (NACF) and the Philippine Harvest organized by the Department of Tourism – Philippines
Named after the town’s yearly festivity, LMPC produces the ‘PAHINIS’ muscovado sugar brand – the banner product of Antique.
