Legarda files resolution to review laws on women in line with the Updated Philippine Development Plan

Three-term Senator, now Deputy Speaker, Loren Legarda filed House Resolution 1681 that will direct the House of Representatives to conduct an inquiry into the implementation of pertinent women-related laws and policies in line with the Updated Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022.

The Updated Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022 is geared towards the Ambisyon Natin 2040 that details strategies, policies, and programs under the three main pillars of Malasakit (building a high-trust society), Pagbabago (transforming towards equity and resiliency), and Patuloy na Pag-unlad (increasing growth potential). The updated Plan responds to the emergence of new threats to the country’s growth prospects and guides the transition towards economic recovery.[1]


Legarda urges Filipinos to abide by the rules of ECQ, reminds to adhere to health protocols

Three-term Senator, now Deputy Speaker, Loren Legarda urged the Filipino public to abide by the imposition of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the Greater Manila area and to increase adherence to COVID-19 health protocols and guidelines.

“The remarkable increase in the daily positivity rate of COVID-19 cases in the country, at 18 percent recorded on March 28, is very alarming.[1] The additional 10,016 cases as of today, March 29, should serve as a warning to us that we should never be complacent. Our unseen enemy that has cost lives and crippled our livelihoods is still in our midst,” Legarda said.


Legarda urges Filipinos to support Earth Hour, calls for strengthened efforts on climate action

Three-term Senator, now Deputy Speaker, Loren Legarda today called on Filipinos to participate in this year’s Earth Hour, the global movement to simultaneously switch off lights for one hour to support efforts on environmental protection and climate change, on Saturday, March 27 at 8:30 in the evening.

“I encourage every Filipino to participate in this year’s Earth Hour, convened by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), as a declaration of our commitment to promote a cleaner, greener, safer and resilient world. Turning off lights and other electrical appliances for an hour may seem insignificant to change the current state of the planet in a snap, but if all of us, the billions of citizens all over the world, will imbibe the message of “Earth Hour”, the impact would be immense. Small acts cannot be underestimated because these small acts, when put together, create big positive changes,” Legarda said.


Legarda calls for greater international support for renewables in COVID recovery

MANILA, 24 March 2021 — House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda called for greater international support for renewable energy as countries look to invest in COVID-19 recovery in a keynote speech for the Joint Virtual Policy Dialogue of the Global Renewables Congress (GRC) and the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) held Wednesday, March 24.

“As we invest in COVID-19 recovery efforts, it is important to realize that the efficient use of power and renewable energy brings cost-competitiveness and generates jobs,” Legarda said in her keynote message.

Legarda lauds frontliners one year after lockdown started, calls for strengthened implementation of health protocols

Three-term Senator, now Deputy Speaker, Loren Legarda today paid tribute to those who tirelessly worked in the frontlines of the ongoing battle against COVID-19, as the country marked one year since the imposition of lockdown and community quarantines to help curb the spread of the virus. For Legarda, these frontliners include doctors, nurses, health workers, policemen and members of the armed forces, the utility staff, those working in groceries and retail, food and cargo delivery drivers, fisherfolk and farmers, market vendors, journalists, security personnel, the OFWs, and the dedicated government workers, both at the national and local levels.

“It has been a year since lockdowns were imposed due to the pandemic and these restrictions have gravely affected many aspects of our lives. Our invisible enemy has claimed thousands of lives, has affected the health of our people, and our very own frontliners were not spared. Yet they continue to render their service under tremendous stress and danger despite knowing that they are exposing themselves to the threat of the virus,” Legarda said.
