The first doctor of humanities, honoris causa, given by the University of Antique! I am deeply honored to be conferred the Doctor of Humanities, honoris causa, the first in the history of the University—an honor I humbly dedicate to my fellow Antiqueños.
As your 4 term Senator and a proud daughter of Antique, I have long championed initiatives to elevate the University of Antique as a premier educational institution. Even before the enactment of the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, I had consistently secured funding to provide free tuition to thousands of students, ensuring that education remained accessible to every Antiqueño. This commitment continues through the free tuition program, scholarships, and other opportunities that I have tirelessly advocated for.
I also take pride in the completion of the newly built swimming pool, a hub for health, sports, and camaraderie, alongside upcoming projects I supported such as the track oval and padel courts that promote discipline and community spirit. To prepare students for global challenges, I pushed for the establishment of a Maritime Virtual and Augmented Reality Laboratory, the Integrated Research and Development Laboratory, and the Maritime E-Learning Management System. I also ensured the activation of free Wi-Fi through Starlink across campuses, enabling greater connectivity for limitless learning opportunities.
And in collaboration with the University of Antique, we implemented initiatives to promote sustainable livelihoods, empower communities, and strengthen Antique’s local industries. This includes establishing the bamboo craft and furniture facility to support MSMEs by utilizing our abundant bamboo resources. In partnership with DOST, we also developed a brick-making facility to enhance terra cotta production, providing opportunities for local artisans.
These initiatives I have championed are investments in our kasimanwa’s future and stepping stones to a resilient, sustainable Antique. Kruhay, University of Antique!
