For the third and final day of the German publishers’ visit to Manila, the National Book Development Board (NBDB) and my Office prepared an itinerary that gave them the opportunity to be exposed to our local publishing houses and immersed them in the rich culture and history of the Philippines.
The German publishers had a quick tour of Intramuros. They visited the galleries at the National Museum of Anthropology that we initiated and supported — the Hibla ng Lahing Filipino, Baybayin, and the GAMABA.
Before the day ended, we welcomed the delegation to the Philippine Senate, where we had a meaningful discussion about their experiences in visiting the Philippines, the publishing industry, and how we worked hard to achieve the Guest of Honour country status at the 2025 Frankfurter Buchmesse. We also discussed Dr. Jose Rizal’s life in Germany and the Filipinos’ linkages to the German people.
We hope the German publishers had a pleasant and worthwhile time in Manila. It is an honor to have shared with them the unique, and diverse Filipino culture and the hospitality of our people.
