Yesterday, we continued the hearing on Philippine Ecosystem and Natural Capital Accounting System (PENCAS) Act and the Blue Economy Act.
These proposed measures aim to safeguard our environment and harness the full potential of our marine biodiversity. During the discussion, I highlighted that PENCAS Act could be utilized to generate jobs, improve our Gross Domestic Product, and therefore increase the country’s economy. While the Blue Economy Act can help our fisherfolk and farmers and ultimately change the lives of the Filipino people for the better.
I am thankful to all the agencies—the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), and DA-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR), that came prepared for this hearing. Our national agencies must converge and share information so that we can come up with practical solutions and the best implementation of laws. Thank you to all the experts and stakeholders that attended today’s hearing. This is an opportunity to craft policies that will define our nation’s trajectory toward a greener, more sustainable future.
