During yesterday’s session, I surprised my colleagues with another artisanal salt, this time from the Municipality of Botolan, Zambales—the Asin sa Buy-o!
The Samahan ng Mangangasin sa Panayunan carefully makes this unique salt from the seawater evaporated in large steel pans. The salt is then hand-harvested and packed in woven nipa baskets.
Last Monday, Senate Bill No. 2243, or the “Philippine Salt Industry Development Act,” was approved on third reading. As author and co-sponsor of this measure, I fully support strengthening and revitalizing the salt industry in the Philippines. Let us treasure our salt heritage, fostering agricultural productivity and economic growth.
