59th Founding Anniversary of the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication

Feeling nostalgic visiting my alma mater, the UP College of Mass Communication. I graduated in 1981, and the visit brought back memories of sitting by the bench outside Malcolm Hall, enjoying the famous “mais” merienda.

A heartfelt thank you to UP CMC Dean Ernan Paragas and Vice Chancellor Raquel Florendo for the kind invitation and an update on the College’s progress and goals, including the improvements for the Media Center and UP Film Institute projects I have supported before. It was a pleasure discussing the exciting plans for the future of the UP CMC, including the Archives Building, a dream that we will surely achieve for my dear college.

I also had the opportunity to meet the faculty and staff. The new educators will surely bring fresh perspectives and dynamic approaches to impart knowledge to future leaders. It was also inspiring to engage with passionate students advocating for peace talks and bravely voicing their stands on current issues. Seeing these young minds, I’m encouraged and touched that I am not alone in my advocacies.

As a proud UP CMC alumna, I pledge to continue giving back and supporting our university in nurturing future intelligent leaders. Though my visit was brief and rainy, I look forward to returning soon.
