First week of Senate session in 2025

Yesterday marks the second day of Senate session in 2025! We are eager to translate our dedication of serving the nation into meaningful action.
On the first session day, we passed on 3rd reading Senate Bill No. 2863 or the Foreign Affairs Pension Differential Act, a bill I principally authored – in honor of the tireless service of our diplomats and foreign service personnel who safeguard our nation’s interests and the welfare of Filipinos abroad.
Another very important measure, which I co-sponsored was also approved on 3rd reading. Senate Bill No. 2816 extends the term of office of Barangay officials and members of the Sangguniang Kabataan to four (4) years, allowing them to serve for not more than three (3) consecutive terms in the same position. Also worthy to note that under the bill, the next regular barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections shall be held on the 1st Monday of October 2027 and every four (4) years thereafter.
Another bill I co-sponsored that was passed on 3rd reading was Senate Bill No. 2897, which seeks to amend the Safe Spaces Act. It seeks to further strengthen the protection of individuals in public and private spaces against harassment and discrimination.
Lastly, the Modernization of PHIVOLCS bill that I co-sponsored was also passed on 3rd reading. We will be equipping the agency with the latest technologies and resources to safeguard the lives and properties of our citizens in the face of natural disasters.
