MSMEs from the 1st District of Batangas at the National Arts and Crafts Fair 2024

For the first time, MSMEs from the 1st District of Batangas participated in the annual National Arts and Crafts Fair last October 23 to 27 at the Megatrade halls, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City, a platform that I conceptualized and supported since 2016 together with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and the Design Center of the Philippines (DCP) to provide more livelihood opportunities while giving community based MSMEs, indigenous communities, and local artisans a national stage where they can showcase their crafts and heritage.
Bordado ni Apolonia from Taal highlighted the timeless art of embroidery, with each intricate design telling a story through every stitch. Engaging in a conversation with them, I found out that around 100 families in the municipality still practice this tradition, keeping their heritage alive, and passing it on to future generations. However, to elevate their skills and enhance their craft, they need support for essential resources like embroidery machines. We are committed to helping them access these resources, working closely with concerned agencies to ensure they receive the assistance they deserve.
Ate Lidia’s Special Tamales from Balayan brought a taste of heritage with tamales made from a treasured family recipe handed down through generations, along with other treats like hot choco and kapeng barako. Every bite reminded me of why I love this delicacy—rich in history, flavor, and community.
Let’s continue supporting our MSMEs and helping sustain their livelihoods by sharing our cultural treasures not just to Filipinos but also to a broader market. I will ensure these two MSMEs are featured again in future fairs and strive to showcase even more talented MSMEs from Batangas, bringing Batangueños’ rich heritage and artistry further into the spotlight!
