“Soft power”, in today’s new geo political landscape, I am proud to have initiated projects that propel the Philippines on the global stage. We successfully defended the proposed 2025 budget for the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and its attached agencies, ensuring continued support for the pillars of foreign policy and key cultural diplomacy initiatives.
During the deliberations, we were able to touch on matters close to my heart as I became instrumental in bringing these projects to fruition. Key efforts include establishing Philippine Studies programs in 25 esteemed international universities, fostering understanding and appreciation of our culture and history; reviving Philippine participation in the Venice Biennale after a 51-year hiatus, revitalizing cultural and artistic exchange in the global contemporary art scene; and our upcoming role as Guest of Honour at the 2025 Frankfurter Buchmesse, amplifying our literary heritage and opening opportunities for our local writers, artists, and publishers.
My gratitude goes to Minority Leader Koko Pimentel for his valuable insights and support, which have enriched our understanding of the DFA’s vital role in advancing our country’s diplomacy.
