At the Session yesterday, I am honored to have sponsored significant bills that will push for the preservation of culture and recognize an important part in our country’s history.
SB No. 2583 or the Aklan Piña Museum and Cultural Center Act aims to further develop and promote piña tradition through education, leisure, arts and culture promotion. Just last December of 2023, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), inscribed the Piña Handloom Weaving of Aklan into the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This recognition marks the first-ever intangible cultural heritage element from our nation in traditional craftsmanship and the first from the Visayas region.
SB No. 2690 or the Bacoor Assembly Act of 1898 Act seeks to properly commemorate a significant event in our past that was nearly consigned to the dustbins of history as a minor footnote—The August 1, 1898 Act of independence. It is an act of duly elected local officials deliberating our freedom and making our independence known to the whole world.
Truly, our nation’s culture and history are rich and continuously flourishing, worthy of notable recognitions.
