Senate Bill No. 2243, or the Act Strengthening and Revitalizing the Salt Industry in the Philippines, which I authored and co-sponsored, just passed third reading in the Senate.
This proposed measure, principally sponsored by Sen. Cynthia Villar as Chair of the Committee on Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reform, aims to establish the Philippine Salt Industry Development Roadmap that will formulate programs, projects, and interventions for the development, innovations, and preservation of Philippine salt.
Salt is not just a food commodity. It will always be an integral part of our development as a nation that consistently provides Filipinos opportunities that shape communities. Artisanal salt is part of our culinary heritage, and sustainable livelihoods for rural communities.
