Vernissage of the Philippine Pavilion at the 58th Venice Art Biennale

The Philippine Pavilion exhibition Island Weather held its vernissage today at the Artiglierie of the Arsenale in Venice, Italy. The event marked the Philippines’ entry to the 58th Venice Art Biennale, and the country’s fifth consecutive participation in the world’s biggest contemporary art exposition.

Island Weather is curated by Tessa Maria Guazon and features artist Mark Justiniani and his immersive and massive installation titled Arkipelago. The exhibition is an exploration of how an archipelagic state such as the Philippines forms its national consciousness shaped by its many islands, which all have its own unique vernacular culture and history.

Green Party Launches Ten Million Trees Campaign in Laguna

Luntiang Pilipinas Party-list on Monday formally launched a campaign in Calamba, Laguna to plant ten million trees in the Philippines as part of a nationwide regreening effort that would help improve the country’s environment.

 

According to Luntian first nominee Michael Ubac, “our objective is not just to win a seat in Congress so we can fight for the cause of the environment; our rallying call is also this: make the Philippines green again!”

Legarda Lauds Ombudsman for Relief of Officials over Boracay Neglect, Urges LGUs to Implement Envi Laws

Senator Loren Legarda today renewed her call for local government units (LGUs) to implement the country’s environmental laws as she commended the Office of the Ombudsman for its dismissal of Malay town Mayor Ceciron Cawaling and Licensing Officer Jen Salsona in relation to the administrative complaint filed against them for negligence in the management of Boracay Island.

 

It would be recalled that Boracay Island underwent a six-month temporary closure in April 2018 because of its degradation. It was reopened in October last year following successful rehabilitation efforts.

Antique Hosts Pista ng Komedya 2019

Senator Loren Legarda has partnered once again with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) to celebrate a rich tradition in Antique—the Komedya.

 

Antique is the site of Pista ng Komedya 2019 to be held from ‪April 23-25 in the province’s capital town, San Jose de Buenavista. This is a project of the NCCA in partnership with Senator Legarda and in cooperation with the Antique Integrated Area Development (ANIAD). This program is part of the celebration of National Literature Month.

Legarda: PAL’s Additional Flights to Antique a Good Sign of Progress

Senator Loren Legarda today said that Philippine Airlines (PAL) will fly three times a week from Clark International Airport to Antique airport, and vice versa, starting April 25, 2019.
 

Legarda, who is running for Congresswoman of Antique and fondly called “Inday Loren” by Antiqueños, said that the increased direct flights to the province is a good sign of progress.

Legarda: Programs on Protection of Environment, Arts and Culture to Boost Tourism in Antique

Senator “Inday Loren” Legarda today said she wants Antique’s tourism to flourish like its sister provinces in Western Visayas and believes that this is possible through environmental protection and arts and culture promotion.
 

Legarda noted that Antique is the province in Western Visayas with the second lowest number of tourist arrivals in 2017 and the lowest in 2018. According to data from the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VI, in 2017, there were only 162,925 domestic and international tourists who visited Antique out of the 5.8 million total tourist arrivals in Western Visayas Region. In 2018, Antique only had 108,220 out of the region’s 4.9 million tourist arrivals.

Secretary Bello to Antiqueños: Thank Inday Loren for DOLE Programs in Antique

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Tuesday visited Antique to check on the implementation of its various programs in the province and told Antiqueños to thank Senator Inday Loren Legarda for bringing these services to her kasimanwas.

 

Bello acknowledged Legarda’s efforts to bring DOLE’s programs, such as Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers Program or TUPAD Program, closer to the people, including Antiqueños.

Inday Loren Ensures Antiqueños: Health is a Priority Wants Medicines for Senior Citizens, Toilet in Every Home

In celebration of World Health Day (April 7), Senator Inday Loren Legarda today assured her kasimanwas that providing quality health care services to Antiqueños and addressing issues that affect their health are among her priority programs.

Legarda, who is running for Representative of the Lone District of Antique under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), said that she wants to provide free medicines, especially to senior citizens and indigent patients who need to take maintenance medicines.
