As United Nations member states converge in France today, November 30, for the 21st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change or COP 21, Senator Loren Legarda said that nations must agree to limit global warming to 1.5°C.
“What good is a list of achievements if Paris fails to set a target that aims for 1.5 degrees? If Paris fails to set clear long-term goals — if the outcome in Paris is mute about the absolutely undeniable need for global decarbonization by or before 2050, all the efforts of vulnerable countries will not be enough to stem the crisis,” she stressed.

Senator Loren Legarda today stressed that the Philippines has all the reasons to ensure that a legally binding and universal climate agreement is achieved in the 2015 Paris Climate Conference.
“The Philippines cannot afford failure of the Paris Talks. If nations will not agree and commit to a climate deal that will limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, we will experience more of Ondoy, Pepeng, Yolanda, habagat-induced rains, and stronger episodes of El Niño,” said Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Climate Change.

In line with the upcoming climate change conference in France, Senator Loren Legarda today said that nations must agree to limit global warming to 1.5°C.
“We must take urgent and aggressive climate action. The Philippines, as a least emitter of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions but highly vulnerable to climate change impacts, must not take this injustice sitting down. We need to limit warming to 1.5°C to be able to survive,” said Legarda, United Nations Champion for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation for Asia-Pacific.

The Senate has passed on third reading the proposed 2016 national budget worth Php3.002 Trillion.
On Thursday night, Senator Loren Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance and sponsor of the proposed budget, along with 13 other senators present on session voted to approve the budget on third and final reading following 3 whole days of deliberations.
