Senator Loren Legarda today renewed her call for local government units (LGUs) to implement the country’s environmental laws as she commended the Office of the Ombudsman for its dismissal of Malay town Mayor Ceciron Cawaling and Licensing Officer Jen Salsona in relation to the administrative complaint filed against them for negligence in the management of Boracay Island.
It would be recalled that Boracay Island underwent a six-month temporary closure in April 2018 because of its degradation. It was reopened in October last year following successful rehabilitation efforts.

Senator Loren Legarda has partnered once again with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) to celebrate a rich tradition in Antique—the Komedya.
Antique is the site of Pista ng Komedya 2019 to be held from April 23-25 in the province’s capital town, San Jose de Buenavista. This is a project of the NCCA in partnership with Senator Legarda and in cooperation with the Antique Integrated Area Development (ANIAD). This program is part of the celebration of National Literature Month.

Senator Loren Legarda today said that Philippine Airlines (PAL) will fly three times a week from Clark International Airport to Antique airport, and vice versa, starting April 25, 2019.
Legarda, who is running for Congresswoman of Antique and fondly called “Inday Loren” by Antiqueños, said that the increased direct flights to the province is a good sign of progress.

Senator “Inday Loren” Legarda today said she wants Antique’s tourism to flourish like its sister provinces in Western Visayas and believes that this is possible through environmental protection and arts and culture promotion.
Legarda noted that Antique is the province in Western Visayas with the second lowest number of tourist arrivals in 2017 and the lowest in 2018. According to data from the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VI, in 2017, there were only 162,925 domestic and international tourists who visited Antique out of the 5.8 million total tourist arrivals in Western Visayas Region. In 2018, Antique only had 108,220 out of the region’s 4.9 million tourist arrivals.
