Senate Climate Change Chair Launches – “BUHOS”

SENATOR LOREN LEGARDA TODAY INVITED HER COLLEAGUES IN THE SENATE, SENATE OFFICIALS AND EMPLOYEES, AND THE SENATE MEDIA TO AN ADVANCE SCREENING OF “BUHOS”, A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING DIRECTED BY WORLD-CLASS FILIPINO AND 2009 CANNES BEST DIRECTOR, BRILLANTE MENDOZA.
“Buhos” according to Legarda implores each one of us to make a conscious effort for our environment to prevent the dangerous effects of climate change from happening.
“After all, we have to learn how to live within Earth’s limitations,” Legarda stressed.
The Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Climate Change who has for the last 20 years been dedicated to a nationwide education campaign on climate change and green lifestyle also produced the following:
1. The docu-drama Ulan sa Tag-araw; and
2. A children’s animation movie Ligtas Likas
As a United Nations envoy, Legarda has also collaborated with the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction for the documentary entitled “Now is the Time,” which calls on world leaders to take immediate and comprehensive action to address the growing threats of disasters.
Legarda, who is no stranger to floods having grown up in Malabon, said she hopes through this medium of communication, to be roused as a nation to take climate change seriously and undertake collaborative actions in our respective communities.
Produced and presented by Legarda, “Buhos” will be shown in select cinemas and special screenings nationwide. Legarda, recognized by the United Nations as UNEP laureate for environmental protection and regional champion for disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation for Asia and the Pacific principally authored/ sponsored landmark pieces of legislation – the Climate Change Act of 2009, the Environmental Awareness Education Act, the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act and the Clean Air Act.
