As a symbol of welcoming the new administration, Senator Loren Legarda’s outfit for President Rodrigo Duterte’s first State of the Nation Address reflects simplicity and has cultural significance to Mindanao where the President hails from.

Legarda will wear a fuschia coat in silk with okir-inspired embroidery pattern. The okir is an indigenous design that is distinctly Maranao.

The coat was designed by Len Cabili, who was born in Iligan and is the Founder and Creative Director of Filip + Inna, a local brand that collaborates with indigenous artisans to create contemporary clothing using traditional designs.

She will also wear Marikina-made shoes designed by local entrepreneur Tish Sevilla and a crocheted bag made by the women of Bauang, La Union.

“My outfit for today reflects not only my support for the administration of President Duterte but also my continued support for our indigenous peoples and our micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs),” said Legarda, who has been known for wearing outfits that promote Filipino heritage.
