Message of Senator Loren Legarda for 2018 Eidul Adha

August 20, 2018

Senator Loren Legarda, author of Republic Act No. 9849, An Act Declaring Eidul Adha a National Holiday, encouraged everyone to join in the celebration of Eidul Adha.

“I greet all our Muslim brothers and sisters as they celebrate Eidul Adha. I hope that all Filipinos, regardless of religion or belief, can also reflect on the lessons that this feast signifies,” said Legarda.

The Eidul Adha is also known as the Feast of the Sacrifice. It commemorates Ibrahim’s willingness to obey Allah even to the extent of sacrificing his son. The Muslims see Ibrahim’s act as a demonstration of unswerving devotion to Allah.

“May this act of faith continue to guide our Muslim brothers and sisters in leading fruitful lives and strengthen their dedication in contributing to the development of their communities and our nation as a whole,” Legarda stressed.

The Senator is also hopeful that Filipino Muslims’ celebration will be more meaningful now that the Bangsamoro Organic Law has been enacted.

“With the Bangsamoro Organic Law, we look forward to better social and economic opportunities for Filipino Muslims. I hope that the objectives of the law can be effectively realized and may it bring about genuine peace and lasting security in the region and the whole nation. Again, I wish all Muslims a meaningful celebration,” Legarda concluded.
