July 15, 2015Message of Senator Loren Legarda for 2015 Eidul Fitr
(Author of RA 9177, Act Declaring Eidul Fitr a National Holiday)
Senator Loren Legarda today enjoined all Filipinos all over the world, regardless of their religious beliefs and spiritual affiliations, to be one with our Muslim brothers and sisters in celebrating Eidul Fitr.
“We welcome this year’s Eidul Fitr with high hopes for just and lasting peace in Mindanao. We hope to put an end to the decades-long armed conflict through honest and continuing dialogue with the Muslim community and we aspire for a society where Muslims are no longer subjected to any kind of discrimination,” she said.
Legarda, author of Republic Act No. 9177 also known as the Act Declaring Eidul Fitr a National Holiday, emphasized the value of Eidul Fitr, the Feast of Breaking the Fast, as a way to remind the nation of the need for peace and unity.
“Instead of focusing on the things that divide us, we should find our commonality and from there, we can peacefully discuss our differences. Whatever religion you belong to, you can appreciate Eidul Fitr as a significant festival that rejoices in generosity, discipline, the willingness to sacrifice and compassion; ideals that can end war and suffering,” said Legarda.
