Loren Pushes For Benefits For Teachers, Nurses, Military, Police

March 6, 2010

NPC-NP-LDP VICE-PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE LOREN LEGARDA TODAY DENIED ALLEGATIONS BY POLITICAL FOES THAT SHE HAS FILED A BILL TO CUT THE BENEFITS AND SALARY OF TEACHERS, NURSES, THE MILITARY AND THE POLICE.
“That is nothing but black propaganda. My legislative proposals have always been geared at improving the welfare of our teachers, nurses, military personnel and policemen,” she said.
“Huwag po kayong maniwala sa mga mapanirang text messages na galing sa aking kalaban na ako raw ay nagharap ng mga panukalang batas na magbababawas sa sweldo ninyo.”
Loren called on all national candidates to raise the level of politics and not resort to dirty politics.
“This shows their cowardice and pagka-pikon,” she said.
Loren authored the Public School Teachers’ Salary Upgrade Act (SB-1611) and the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers Act (SB-72), both aimed at increasing the basic compensation levels and benefits package of public school teachers. She also authored the law increasing the basic pay of military personnel.
Over the past two weeks emails and text messages have circulated with allegations that Loren has called to “decrease or abolish the summer pay of public school teachers.”
“Alam ko pong matatalino ang ating mga kaibigang pulis, guro, sundalo, at mga nurse dahil hindi sila agad-agad naniniwala sa maruming uri ng pamumulitika,” she said.
