Loren open to Senate’s no. 2 post

June 16, 2013

MANILA – Sen. Loren Legarda on Tuesday said she is not seeking to be Senate president pro tempore, the second highest position in the Senate, although she had had talks about it with Sen. Franklin Drilon, who’s widely believed to be the next head of the chamber.

“I’m not applying for it. I don’t need it. I can live without it,” she told reporters. “Pero kung kailangang kailangan, I might consider.”

Legarda said she would like to focus more on pursuing environmental measures through her committees.

She added, however, that she won’t be able to decline the position if majority of senators vote for her.

“If there is a position that is waiting, that needs me and my expertise, I will consider…Ayaw kong tumalikod sa isang hamon,” said Legarda. “I cannot turn it down if I’m voted.”
