Loren eyes more PH museums

Vigan City, Ilocos Sur – A lawmaker has sought the establishment of regional museums promoting traditional folk arts and local cultural treasures in the country.

The proposal of Sen. Loren Legarda is aimed at replicating the existing school of living traditions in Suyo, Ilocos Sur in which the cultures, arts and dances of cultural minorities in the province are taught to the younger generations.

Legarda cited that for years, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) has taken the lead in facilitating the conservation and transfer of cultural heritage via its Manlilikha ng Bayan and School of Living Traditions (SLT) programs.

“This bill seeks to complement the efforts of the NCAA by explicitly requiring the National Museum through its regional museums to serve as venues in ensuring the conservation and preservation of the country’s traditional folk arts,” said Legarda, who filed Senate Bill 420 pertaining to the matter.
