Loren Eyes Insurance for Media Covering Elections
February 12, 2010AWARE OF THE OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS OF MEDIA COVERAGE DURING THE ELECTIONS, SENATOR LOREN LEGARDA CALLED FOR A COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE FOR MEDIA PRACTITIONERS COVERING THE ELECTIONS.
“I commend the writers, photojournalists and TV reporters who have been with us since the campaign started. I have been a media practitioner for 20 years and I know the great demands of covering the elections. They are the ONES responsible for upholding transparency and vigilance in the critical democratic exercise that is the elections,” said Loren, a respected broadcast journalist prior to being in public office.
She added, “The work of media is no joke. Regardless of the hectic schedule and the remoteness of locations, the media is there to ensure that the public get information straight from the campaign trail.”
Loren said in her press conference that she will tap PhilHealth to help institutionalize a media insurance coverage for media persons on the field.
Loren who chairs the Senate Committee on Health is also pushing for health reforms such as a UNIVERSAL HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE WHERE THE GOVERNMENT WOULD PROVIDE FOR PHILHEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE SPECIALLY FOR THE UNDERPRIIVILEGED, THE BARANGAY HEALTH WORKERS AND THE UNEMPLOYED INFORMAL SECTOR, AMONG OTHERS.
