October 13, 2018

Senator Loren Legarda welcomed the appointment of new Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro “Teddy Boy” Locsin Jr., noting that she will work with him to improve diplomatic relations and uphold country’s foreign policy.

“As Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, I will work with him in advancing the Philippines’ diplomatic relations with other nations and upholding the four pillars of Philippine foreign policy,” Legarda said in a statement on Friday.

Legarda added that Locsin was suitable for the position, saying that he was experienced in being a journalist and a public official.

“Congratulations to Ambassador Teddy Boy Locsin, Jr. on his appointment as Secretary of Foreign Affairs. He is fit for the job, honed by his long years of experience in public service, both as a journalist and a public official,” she said.

The senator also said that Locsin has “vast knowledge” on the country’s issues because he is a lawyer and has worked with many Philippine presidents.

“A lawyer by profession and worked with various Philippine presidents, Teddy has vast knowledge of national and local issues surrounding the country and how the dynamics of world politics affect our nation,” she said.

Locsin, the country’s permanent representative to the United Nations, “would not waver in protecting our people and the nation’s interests,” the senator said.

Locsin replaced outgoing DFA Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano who will run for a position in the House of Representatives in the 2019 elections. /jpv
