Legarda to LGUs: Listen to your constituents
June 19, 2025Senator Loren Legarda urged the local government leaders of Sibalom, Antique to listen to their constituents and be proactive in leading the way.
“Governance is not power, but patience. Not visibility, but vision—rooted in the everyday needs of your people: water, livelihood, education, health, safety, and dignity,” Legarda said during her speech at the oath-taking of the town’s elected officials.
“I say this not as rhetoric, but as someone who has given her life to these causes,” she added.
Because of listening to the needs of people that others have neglected, Legarda has authored laws that have made a significant impact on the lives of Filipinos.
Among them are the Climate Change Act, the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, the Magna Carta for MSMEs, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, and the Disaster Risk Reduction Act.
She also expressed her full support in the implementation of programs that uplift, helping provide budget, and shared the conviction that local leadership helps drive national transformation.
“The oath you take is not just a rite. It is a reckoning—a reminder of whom you serve, and why,” asserted Legarda.
“It is not a ribbon to wear, but a thread that ties every decision to the life of a farmer in Salvacion, a child in Egaña, a senior in Mabini,” she continued.
“So as we witness these oaths, let us each make our own quiet vow: to rise above division, and carry together the burden and beauty of building a better Sibalom.” (30)
