Legarda Stresses Continuing Need for Climate Change Adaptation

June 3, 2013

Senator Loren Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Climate Change, today stressed the continuing need to address the effects of climate change at a photo exhibit organized by Greenpeace.

Greenpeace, a non-governmental environmental organization, launched today the Climate Change: Challenges and Solutions in Southeast Asia photo exhibit at the Atrium Eastwood Mall where Legarda was the keynote speaker.

The Senator said that she hopes the exhibit would enlighten Filipinos on the need to be involved in efforts to address the effects of climate change, noting that the Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia are either on the Pacific Ring of Fire, the typhoon belt, or both, making the nations in the region extremely vulnerable to natural hazards.

“It is important to realize that the changing climate will have its worse effects on the poor. This is why disseminating information and creating awareness about environmental conservation and sustainable development have never been as vital as it is today,” said Legarda.
