Legarda Pays Tribute to Dolphy; Extends Condolences to Quizon Family
July 11, 2012SENATOR LOREN LEGARDA REMEMBERS DOLPHY QUIZON AS THE MAN WHO REDEFINED FILIPINO COMEDY.
“He was the actor who catered to all and he was the best at finding humor in even the simplest of situations. Of course he was talented, but it was his genuinely unique outlook and ability to empathize that set him apart and allowed him to redefine the industry,” she said.
Rodolfo Vera “Dolphy” Quizon succumbed to complications from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) yesterday. In his movie, Markova: Comfort Gay released in 2000, Legarda had a cameo role as a journalist.
“Dolphy made us laugh for decades and exuded kindness despite his fame and stature. Filipinos will miss him so. There is only one Dolphy, and his legacy will never be forgotten. In these times of overwhelming loss, I wish to extend my deepest condolences to Zsa Zsa and the entire Quizon family,” she said.
“It was truly an honor to work with the ‘King of Comedy’ in Markova. Fearless spirit that he was, he had no second thoughts about venturing out of his comfort zone to tackle the highly controversial and scarcely discussed subject of comfort gays. It was a testament to his versatility, conviction, and genuine talent,” Legarda said.
