Legarda Lauds DBM’s “Green, Green, Green” Program

October 1, 2018

Senator Loren Legarda today lauded the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for its project that aims to make the country’s cities more liveable and sustainable.

Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committees on Finance and Climate Change, expressed her support for the DBM’s Green, Green, Green Program which was launched today, coinciding with the World Habitat Day.

“I congratulate and commend the DBM, and express my full support for its program to create public open spaces in our cities. I am glad that we have a budget secretary who not only understands ‘Build, Build, Build’, but also embraces and espouses ‘Green, Green, Green’,” said Legarda.

The Green, Green, Green Program, or Local Government Support Fund-Assistance to Cities (LGSC-AC), is a unique government assistance program that aims to make the country’s 145 cities more liveable and sustainable through the development of public open spaces.

The DBM has provided Php2.589 billion for the program and has already received 143 project proposals for approval.

During the program launch, 77 cities were also recognized for their public open space projects.

“I commend the local government units (LGUs) who heeded the call and submitted project proposals to the DBM. I hope that this is only the beginning of a stronger partnership between the national government and LGUs in making our cities progressive yet eco-friendly,” Legarda said.

The Senator also emphasized that as we strive to make the whole Php3.7 trillion budget a climate resilient, adaptive and green budget, LGUs should also implement environmental laws, especially the Ecological Solid Waste Management Law.

“Let us green our communities. Let us all make every town in our country equitable, sustainable, resilient and inclusive,” Legarda concluded.
