Legarda: Justice Has Been Served

May 2, 2011

“THE GLOBAL FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM HAS ACHIEVED A HISTORIC MILESTONE. JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED,” THUS COMMENTED SENATOR LOREN LEGARDA ON THE DEATH OF AL QAEDA HEAD OSAMA BIN LADEN.
Senator Loren Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, praised the dedication and hard work of all the people who have been involved in the global fight against terrorism.
“Thousands of innocent lives have been lost on account of the unspeakable consequences of terrorism. I am sure this development brings relief to the families of victims, and to the rest of our freedom-loving communities around the world,” added Legarda.
Senator Legarda underscored the importance of cooperation among nations in the global fight against terrorism. She noted that the Philippines has made its own contribution to this effort and called for stronger alliances “to keep our communities safe”.
“Our role in the global fight against terrorism is clear. That role begins with us ensuring the safety of our own people within our shores. We need to strengthen intelligence efforts and continue to work with the rest of the global community by sharing information, and mutually reinforcing each other’s capacities against terrorism,” said Legarda.
“This development brings us a step closer to our goal of achieving security and peace of mind for our global citizens, travelers, and communities; however, the global fight against terrorism continues.” She added.
“The death of Bin Laden does not end the specter of terrorism. It underscores the fallibility of those who threaten our security. Because of this, we need to remain vigilant against threats to our democratic way of life. We need to continue working with other nations as we seek to make the world a safer place to live in,” Legarda concluded.
