Legarda Joins the Muslim Brethren in Celebrating Eidul Fitr

June 15, 2018

In celebration of Eidul Fitr, Senator Loren Legarda, author of RA 9177 also known as the Act Declaring Eidul Fitr a National Holiday, encouraged all Filipinos, regardless of religious beliefs, to express their support for and solidarity to our Muslim brethren both here and abroad.

“I wish to extend my sincerest felicitations to our Muslim brothers and sisters on the occasion of Eid’l Fitr. As you celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan, I earnestly hope that you are able to reaffirm your deep spiritual devotion and strengthened your faith in God,”Legarda said.

“I also would like to express my admiration for each and every one of you who has again surpassed another test of faith and self-discipline. These, along with humility and patience, are vital virtues that all Filipinos must have to be better individuals who contribute to the betterment of the community where they belong and to the nation as a whole,” Legarda added.

Meanwhile, Legarda also expressed her hope that the approval of the Bangsamoro Basic Law by both Houses of Congress before its adjournment would serve as a testament to the government’s willingness to work with  Filipino Muslims to help them achieve lasting peace and equitable sustainable development in the Bangsamoro region.

“May this legislative measure, once enacted into law, bring us closer to fulfilling our dream for peace, not just for our Muslim brothers, but for every Filipino. I hope that the objectives of the law can be realized, and that the challenges ahead will be overcome for the sake of the millions of Filipinos who deserve peace and security,” Legarda said

“A peaceful and productive co-existence with our Muslim brethren will promote social and economic inclusion that will guarantee a better future for all Filipinos. Hence, we should acknowledge our commonality and peacefully discuss our differences, instead of giving too much attention to the things that divide us.”

To our Muslim brothers and sisters, I once again wish you a joyous and meaningful celebration of Eid’l Fitr and to  the rest of the county, I encourage you to celebrate this occasion that signifies generosity, discipline, the willingness to sacrifice, compassion, a celebration of harmony and respect for all faiths,” Legarda concluded.
