Legarda Invites Everyone to Lecture & Weaving Demo on Ifugao Sacred Textiles at National Museum

November 2, 2016

Senator Loren Legarda invites everyone to join the lecture and weaving demonstrations featuring Ifugao’s sacred textiles on November 3 and 4, 2016 at the Manlilikha ng Bayan Hall, 3rd Floor, National Museum of Anthropology, Manila.

“I invite everyone to the lecture and weaving demonstrations at the National Museum. Ifugao weavers will show their unique and intricate weaving processes. This is a good opportunity for people to learn about Ifugao’s sacred textiles,” the Senator said.

On November 3, Marlon Martin of Save the Ifugao Terraces Movement will have a lecture on “Sacred Textiles of the Ifugao: Context and Conservation”. It will be followed by weaving demonstrations by Virginia Tuguinay, Emilia Alindayo, and Junia Guimpayan, all from the Municipality of Kiangan in Ifugao.

On November 4, the Kiangan weavers will again showcase their weaving techniques.

These weaving demonstrations are part of the Lecture Series on Philippine Traditional Textiles and Indigenous Knowledge, which Legarda and the National Museum initiated since 2012 to perpetuate weaving and indigenous knowledge.
