Legarda: Dayaw TV Season 2 Premieres with Episode on Food Culture

November 2, 2016

Senator Loren Legarda invites everyone to watch the second season of “Dayaw”, which will premiere on Thursday, November 3, 2016, 6:00 p.m. on the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) and ANC HD.

A partnership between ANC and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and conceptualized and hosted by Legarda, “Dayaw” is a six-part, 30-minute weekly documentary series that focuses on the preservation of the country’s culture and heritage.

The second season’s first episode, Lasap – Nourishing a People, is about food and the ways we preserve, prepare and present food—starting with the salt-making tradition of the North, to the Halal of the South; from the meat preservation of the Cordilleras, to the tradition of rich cuisine of Pampanga and the desserts of Bulacan.

“Season 2 of Dayaw looks into the ways in which we Filipinos seek to be whole and complete. We begin the season with an episode on food culture—how we prepare and present food, our methods of using spices and flavorings, how different regions in the country have developed distinct dishes and flavors,” said Legarda, who is known for her advocacy of protecting the rights of indigenous peoples and the preservation of traditional culture.

“I invite everyone to watch Dayaw, which reveals the various facets of our indigenous culture and traditional practices such as weaving, culinary customs, performing arts, rituals, healing practices, the use of medicinal plants, tattooing, among many others. Dayaw is not just a television show, it is a documentation of the Filipino culture which we will hand over to the next generation,” Legarda concluded.
