Legarda: Dayaw Season 2 Ends in Style

December 7, 2016

Dayaw season 2 literally ends in style as the last episode explores the significance of materials used by indigenous peoples to adorn the body.

Senator Loren Legarda invites everyone to watch the season 2 finale, “Karangyaan – Celebrating the Body (part 2)” on December 8, 6:00 pm on the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) and ANC HD.

“Season two of Dayaw ends in a burst of color, ornamentation and adornment. Our IPs are known for their colorful and meaningful clothing and accessories. We look into how materials such as beads, brass and sequins have become more than just objects of trade but highly valued heirlooms and objects of social and spiritual value,” said Legarda.

The episode explores the significance of accessories and the meaning of each to the cultures of the Ga’dang, T’boli, and Bagobo. Many of the glass and stone beads used by IPs were from India, China, Afghanistan, Venice, and different parts of Europe that were traded all over the Philippines. These beads, which had economic value, were blended with native materials to become heirloom pieces.

Dayaw, conceptualized and hosted by Senator Legarda, and produced by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and ANC, is a six-part, 30-minute weekly documentary series that focuses on the preservation of the country’s culture and heritage.

It is shown every Thursday, 6:00pm on ANC and ANC HD, with replays on Friday 1:30am and 2:30pm, Saturday 3:00am and 8:30am, and Sunday 11:00am. It is aired simultaneously on The Filipino Channel (TFC). You may also watch Dayaw online via www.facebook.com/ancalerts.

Legarda is inviting viewers to watch out for the third season of Dayaw next year.

“Next season, we will explore the materials used to build the symbols and expressions of our race, as well as the artisans whose life’s work we must acknowledge and take pride in,” Legarda concluded.
