Legarda commends Batangas State University for winning World Championship at WRO Singapore 2025

Senator Loren Legarda, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Higher, Technical, and Vocational Education, lauded Batangas State University for bringing pride to the Philippines after winning the World Championship at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Singapore 2025 International Finals held from November 26 to 28, 2025 at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Manila Bay Sands

BatStateU’s Team Scarlet-Verdant BSU clinched 1st Place in the highly competitive RoboSports – Double Tennis category, besting 56 international teams from across the globe. The winning trio of Joseph Bernard A. Maala, a BS Mechatronics Engineering freshman, and Light Gabriel M. Bandayrel and Norjeehan A. H. Nasser, Grade 11 students from the BatStateU Integrated School, impressed judges with their fully autonomous robots that showcased exceptional algorithmic precision, strategic responsiveness, and seamless coordination.

The four-term Senator commended the young innovators for their excellence and dedication, noting that their achievement reflects the University’s strong foundation in robotics, engineering, and STEM education. She also expressed appreciation for the leadership and mentorship of coaches Mr. Luis Philip M. Oropesa, Mr. Eugene E. Mendoza, and Mr. Jomari B. Montalbo, whose guidance helped hone the team’s competitive and technical skills.

“This triumph is not only a victory for the University, but also for the entire nation,” Legarda said. “It reinforces the growing strength and ingenuity of young Filipinos in the fields of robotics, engineering, and advanced STEM innovation. I am immensely proud of these remarkable students who continue to raise the flag of Philippine excellence on the global stage.”

Legarda further emphasized that this international recognition underscores BatStateU’s fulfillment of its mandate as the Philippines’ National Engineering University, designated under Republic Act No. 11694.

BatStateU also garnered highly commendable results in several WRO categories, including RoboSports, Future Engineers, Future Innovators, and RoboMission, further affirming its vital role in advancing Philippine competitiveness in science and technology. (30)
