Legarda Celebrates Indigenous Peoples’ Month with Dayaw Season 6, Nat’l Arts and Crafts Fair
October 25, 2018In celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ Month this October, Senator Loren Legarda enjoins everyone to watch today the sixth season of Dayaw and to visit the second edition of the 2018 National Arts and Crafts Fair (NACF).
The NACF opens today, October 25 until Sunday, October 28, at Megatrade Halls 1-3, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City. It features 260 booths of local artisans and schools of living traditions (SLTs) representing all regions in the country. All 18 municipalities of Antique, Legarda’s home province, are also represented.
“Once again, we showcase our country’s cultural diversity, exquisite artistry and innovative craftsmanship through our heritage products such as hand-woven textiles and crafts, fashion accessories, home furnishings, and heirloom food. I am also proud to show the best products of my kasimanwas in my home province of Antique as all 18 towns of the province are represented in this edition of NACF,” Legarda said.
“The National Arts and Crafts Fair serves as a powerful platform to support our local talents and entrepreneurs by helping them reach wider local and international markets. It is a venue that puts the spotlight on innovative products that not only represent the indigenous cultures and traditions of our regions, but also appeal to the aesthetics of modern global designs,” she stressed.
The NACF is organized by the Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion (DTI-BDTP), in cooperation with the DTI Regional and Provincial Offices and with the support from Senator Legarda.
Meanwhile, the season six of Dayaw starts airing today at 6:30pm on the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC). It features six new episodes on indigenous Filipino culture and life built on water.
With the theme, “Agos,” the six-part series focuses on the waterways of the Philippines—seas, lakes and rivers, and their role in shaping Filipino culture and heritage.
“For this season, we visited bodies of water all over the country—from the rough waves of Batanes all the way to southern Tawi-Tawi—and explored the role the country’s waterways play in our culture,” said Legarda.
The first episode reveals what it takes to make a life from the waters of Batanes, as viewers witness the rough waves in the province, the breathtaking views of its rolling terrain, and awe-inspiring mix of mountains, cliffs, and ocean.
Dayaw, conceptualized and hosted by Legarda and produced by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and ANC, is an award-winning cultural documentary program that focuses on the rich and vibrant culture and living traditions of the Filipinos.
It is shown every Thursday at 6:30pm on ANC with live-streaming on abs-cbnnews.com/live and ANC’s Facebook Page, aired simultaneously on The Filipino Channel (TFC). Replay schedule: Friday 1:30am and 2:30pm, Saturday 3:00am and 8:30am, Sunday 11:30am, and Monday 1:30pm.
