Legarda Announces Opening of Manila FAME’s 70th Edition

October 17, 2019

Deputy Speaker and Antique Congresswoman Loren Legarda today proudly announced the opening of Manila FAME, which will run from October 17-19, 2019 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.

Now on its 70th edition, the Manila FAME is a biannual design and lifestyle trade show organized by the Department of Trade and Industry through the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions.

Legarda, a passionate advocate of culture and the arts, has been supporting the participation of Antique artisans in the exhibition since 2018. At that time, only the Antique Development Foundation was able to participate.

During its 69th edition held last April 25-27, 2019, the trade show saw 11 more artisans from Antique engaged in the production and marketing of crafts, decors and accessories products made from locally grown and locally sourced materials.

In the current edition of Manila FAME, seven (7) artisans from Antique are participating: Tobias Fornier Bamboocrafters Association; Buri Handicraft Association, Inc. (BUHAI); Kinuris Crafts, a sub-sector of BUHAI; Produkto Puro Antiqueño by Adora; Produkto Puro Antiqueño by Francia; Sibalom Bamboo Craftmakers Association; and Ariana’s Coco Products.

“Our identity as Filipinos are embedded in our traditional arts and culture. It is my hope that, through programs such as this, we will be able to showcase and promote them to the rest of the world,” said Legarda.

“I also hope that this will encourage more Filipinos to support our own. Let us keep our rich culture and tradition alive by supporting local products, enterprises, and businesses. By doing so, we will also be boosting tourism and trade in the country and driving it to sustainable development and progress,” she added.

The Manila FAME is the second longest-running trade show in the Asia-Pacific and is the only trade event in the country that is approved by the Union des Foires Internationales (UFI), or the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, a Paris-based association of trade fair organizers.

“I encourage everyone to visit the Manila FAME, meet the artisans, and learn about the success stories behind the products,” Legarda concluded.***
