Justice Palma Foundation holds Legal Forum on Climate Justice on November 12 at AIM

October 28, 2015

The Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma Foundation that advocates for social justice, peace, freedom, education, and good governance will hold a Legal Forum on Climate Justice at the SGV Hall of the Asian Institute of Management Conference Center on November 12 from 1 PM to 5 PM.

In the Philippines, the issue of climate justice is gaining ground among various sectors in the wake of massive destruction brought about by climate change. There is now serious talk on how we can leverage for reparations or compensation from first world countries which are considered the high carbon emitters that cause damage to the environment, health, infrastructure, livelihood, and on our very lives.

The forum is a gathering of resource speakers who are professed advocates for the mitigation and adaptation of climate change, human rights, and ethical business practices. The Forum will answer the question, “Is Climate Justice a Human Right?”. The forum will be led by Senator Loren Legarda who has long championed the cause of climate change mitigation; Secretary Lucille Sering of the Climate Change Commission; Chair Chito Gascon of the Commission on Human Rights; Mr. Bonar Laureto of the Philippine Business for the Environment; and Atty. Jennifer Corpuz of the Tebtebba Foundation which advocates for the rights of indigenous peoples. Atty. Tony Oposa who has long-gained national and international recognition on environmental law will also grace the event.

The forum hopes to enlighten the public on the issues of climate justice, encourage the climate change areas to be involved in programs that seek reparations and/or compensation, and inform the public how we collectively share in the mitigation and adaptation to climate change impacts.

Only 250 free seats available; first come, first served basis. Those who are interested to join, may pre-register at http://www.justicepalmafoundation.org/online-registration/.
