Inday Loren Reminds Antiqueños to Prepare for Earthquakes

November 5, 2018

Senator Loren Legarda today expressed concern over the safety of her kasimanwas after a magnitude 4.7 earthquake jolted the province at 7:45am on Monday. The epicenter was located at the province’s capital, San Jose de Buenavista, but was also felt in neighboring towns, including Iloilo City.

A minute later, another earthquake with magnitude 4.0 hit Sibunag, Guimaras, and was followed a few hours later by a 4.8 magnitude earthquake in Guimbal, Iloilo province.

“I am thankful that no one was hurt and there are no damages expected. But I would like to remind mykasimanwas to always be prepared for earthquakes and the possibility of a tsunami, especially since 15 of the 18 towns in the province are coastal areas,” said Legarda.

“As I visit every barangay in my home province, I will conduct lectures on disaster preparedness, including what to do before, during and after earthquakes. Every community must be prepared and have an evacuation plan to help citizens find out the fastest and safest way to reach safe areas. I will also make sure that the provincial government and the municipal governments of every town are prepared and encourage them to ensure the structural integrity of buildings and structures in the province. I will instill disaster preparedness among my fellow Antiqueños to make sure they are safe whenever natural hazards strike,” Legarda concluded.
