Dayaw Season Ender Features Panay Indigenous Heritage

February 7, 2018

Senator Loren Legarda enjoins the public to watch the last episode of Dayaw Season 4 – Vessels of Culture, showcasing communities in Panay that have preserved their cultural traditions amid modernity.

Episode 6 titled, “Rediscovering Traditions,” features the Iraynon-Bukidnon from Antique and how they have preserved their heritage such as their rice terraces and agriculture system; and the last binukot of Calinog, Rosita Caballero, who was last interviewed by Dayaw before she passed on in 2017.

It will be aired on Thursday, February 8, 6:30pm, on the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), with livestreaming on abs-cbnnews.com/live and on ANC’s Facebook page.

“On this, our season ender, we discover a pocket of culture that has survived, even thrives, in spite and despite modern encroachment. The Iraynon-Bukidnon people of Antique have continued to live in their ancestral lands. Their close and deep relationship with their environment has been kept hidden, undisturbed, and affected only by the factors that they choose to be of import. This episode also looks into the life of a binukot, a bearer of important traditions,” said Legarda.
