Dayaw Season 5 Episode 2 Examines the Cuaresma

June 27, 2018

Senator Loren Legarda examines the different Filipino traditions and practices during the Lenten seasonespecially its performative aspects like chanting, singing, and theatrics that serve as a backdrop for folk art and artistry.

Episode 2 of Dayaw’s Fifth Season, entitled Cuaresma (A Season of Redemption), will air on June 28, Thursday, at 06:30pm on the ABS – CBN News Channel (ANC).

“This episode will let us explore the most iconic segments of the Filipino tradition during Cuaresma. In commemorating the tradition of pain and redemption, these traditions showcase the extent of the Filipino devotion to their spiritual beliefs. ,” Legarda said.

“No matter what you believe in or whom you pray to, you cannot deny that the folk traditions of Cuaresma reflect a form of spirituality that celebrates art and expression. And no matter how you see these traditions, there is no denying that they live on. That with every passing Cuaresma, there is an added dynamism. None of these traditions remain static. They have evolved over time,” Legarda concluded.

Dayaw, a six-part, 30-minute weekly documentary series that focuses on the preservation of the country’s culture and heritage, conceptualized and hosted by Legarda, and produced by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and ANC, is now on its 5th Season with the theme “Pagdiwang at Pasasalamat”.
