Dayaw Features the Bugkalot of Nueva Vizcaya

October 31, 2018

Senator Loren Legarda invites everyone to watch the second episode of Dayaw Season 6: Agos on Thursday, November 1, 6:30 pm, on the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), with livestreaming on abs-cbnnews.com/live and on ANC’s Facebook page.

The second episode, “A Tribe, A River, A Dam”, features the rivers and dams of Nueva Vizcaya to explore the culture of the Bugkalot tribe, and delve into their history as nomadic farmers, fishermen, warriors and headhunters to find out what aspects of their culture are still being practiced today.

“This explores the deep connection of the Bugkalot to the bodies of water in their communities, that despite having a new identity—veering away from their past as headhunters—their ways of fishing and harvesting still very much resemble the practice of their Ilongot forebears,” said Legarda.

“The episode looks into the challenges that the Bugkalot community faces due to the construction of the Casecan Dam which affected the water flow from the Taan River. The waters of the river that once nurtured their culture flow onto their lands less freely now, as the full might and effectivity of the dam is felt,” said Legarda.

Dayaw, conceptualized and hosted by Legarda, and produced by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and ANC, is a six-part, 30-minute weekly documentary series that focuses on the preservation of the country’s culture and heritage.

It is shown every Thursday, at 6:30 pm on ANC, with livestreaming on news.abs-cbn.com/live and on ANC’s Facebook page, and aired simultaneously on The Filipino Channel (TFC). Replays are on Friday 1:30am and 2:30pm, Saturday 3:00am and 8:30am, Sunday 11:30am, and Monday 1:30pm.***
