Dayaw Features Marawi’s Culture and Islamic Faith in the Midst of Post-War Restoration

July 18, 2018

Senator Loren Legarda invites everyone to watch the fifth episode of Dayaw season 5: Pagdiwang at Pasasalamat on Thursday, July 19, 6:30 pm, on the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), with livestreaming on news.abs-cbn.com/live and on ANC’s Facebook page.

In the fifth episode, titled, “The Spirit of Maratabat Lives On” the Dayaw team travels to Marawi in time for the sacred celebration of Eid’l Fitr to explore the Maranao’s culture rooted in the historic city as the people of Marawi rebuild their lives after the siege that has befallen them.

“This episode will showcase the value system, “Maratabat”, the instinct of survival that have kept the Maranao culture so vibrant during and after the crisis. We will explore how the Maranaos value the beauty of their culture as they try to carry on the proud tradition of courtly art using time-honored techniques in the midst of post-war restoration,” Legarda said.

“Faith, they say, can build cities. Marawi may have been ruined, but the strong Islamic faith of its artisans and people made this year’s Eidl Fitr celebrations all the more resonant, because of the struggles they had been through and the greater challenges that they were facing,” Legarda added.

Dayaw, conceptualized and hosted by Senator Legarda, and produced by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and ANC, is a six-part, 30-minute weekly documentary series that focuses on the preservation of the country’s culture and heritage.

It is shown every Thursday, at 6:30 pm on ANC, with live streaming on news.abs-cbn.com/live and on ANC’s Facebook page, and aired simultaneously on The Filipino Channel (TFC). Replays are on Friday 1:30am and 2:30pm, Saturday 3:00am and 8:30am, Sunday 11:30am, and Monday 1:30pm.
