Legarda on 119th Independence Day: Diversity Breeds Unity, Culture and Heritage Key to Inclusive Growth

Senator Loren Legarda today said that a shared understanding of the diverse Filipino culture is key to promoting inclusive growth.

Legarda made the statement as the nation celebrates the 119^thAnniversary of Philippine Independence with the theme “Kalayaan 2017: Pagbabagong Sama-Samang Balikatin.”

Legarda: Ending Child Labor Is A Must

In observance of the World Day Against Child Labor (June 12), Senator Loren Legarda said that ending child labor is a must, stressing the right of children to a life free from violence, exploitation and abuse.

According to the United Nations, around 168 million children remain trapped in child labor and many of them live in areas affected by conflict and disaster.

Legarda: We Must Promote A Culture of Safety

Senator Loren Legarda has urged private and public establishments all over the country to develop a culture of safety, stressing that disasters, whether natural or human-induced, can be prevented when necessary security and preventive measures are in place.

Legarda: Climate Action Vital in Protecting Our Oceans

In celebration of World Oceans Day on June 8, Senator Loren Legarda renewed her call to limit global warming as a way to safeguard the world’s oceans and reduce impacts of climate change.

Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Climate Change and UNISDR Global Champion for Resilience, said that oceans have absorbed about a third of global carbon dioxide emissions, causing acidification. This has also resulted in coral bleaching.

Legarda: US Pullout From Paris Agreement Poses New Climate Challenge

On World Environment Day (June 5), Senator Loren Legarda urged stronger cooperation among nations and individuals to address environmental concerns, stressing that greater challenges are expected especially with US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement.
