Legarda: 2017 Budget Addresses Domestic Concerns, Impacts from Global Factors

Senator Loren Legarda today said that the government has considered not only the national and local scenario but also the expected changes in the global political landscape, including the results of the US presidential elections, in crafting the proposed P3.350 trillion national budget for 2017.

SENATORS on Tuesday resumed marathon plenary deliberations on the P3.350-trillion 2017 national budget bill submitted by the Duterte administration to Congress.

Taking turns interpellating Sen. Loren Legarda on her budget sponsorship speech, the senators sought clarifications of the Senate Committee on Finance chairman’s report on the annual funding allocations, listing programmed appropriations at P2,431,986,952,000 and unprogrammed appropriations at P65,100,000,000.

Legarda: 2017 Budget Will Help Deliver Change Filipinos Want

Senator Loren Legarda said that the proposed 2017 National Budget worth P3.350 trillion will help deliver the change that Filipinos want.

“Our proposed 2017 budget sets bold plans to meet not just today’s needs, but one that looks beyond 2017, one that contributes to delivering long-term solutions to the country’s long-term problems,” said Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, during her sponsorship speech on the proposed 2017 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

Legarda: Membership in AIIB Will Help Boost PHL’s Growth

Senator Loren Legarda said the country’s membership in the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) would help achieve its growth targets through accelerated infrastructure spending.

Legarda, who chaired the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations’ hearing on the Articles of Agreement of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, said, as the Duterte administration aims to increase infrastructure spending of up to 7% of gross domestic product (GDP), membership in the AIIB will give the country additional source of financing for major capital investment projects of the government and the private sector.
