Message: 2019 Eidul Adha
August 10, 2019Deputy Speaker and Antique Congresswoman Loren Legarda is one with our Muslim brothers and sisters as they commemorate the Eidul Adha or “Feast of the Sacrifice” today.
Legarda, co-author of Republic Act No. 9849 or “An Act Declaring Eidul Adha a National Holiday”, encouraged everyone regardless of religion or belief to reflect on what this day truly means.
“I hope that this feast will continue to guide our Muslim brothers and sisters, as well as non-Muslim Filipinos, in living a life of faith and devotion, guided by mutual respect and understanding,” said Legarda.
The Eidul Adha commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim to obey Allah, even to the extent of sacrificing his own son, which the Muslims see as a demonstration of unswerving devotion to Him.
Legarda added that, with the passage of the Bangsamoro Organic Law, she hopes to see a difference with how Muslims are viewed and treated in society.
“The aim of the law is to provide better social and economic opportunities to our Muslim brothers and sisters. I hope that, with it, genuine peace and lasting security in the region and the whole nation will be realized. Again, I wish all Muslims a meaningful and solemn celebration,” Legarda concluded.***
