Sen. Loren Legarda held a small post-birthday dinner at the Baluarte de San Diego located within the historic Walled City of Intramuros. The gardens of this Spanish Fort, which Loren helped restore in collaboration with the Intramuros Administration, served as a perfect backdrop for the senator who has made it her passion to reawaken our pride and love for our culture and heritage.
The Baluarte, whose shape resembled an ace of spades, had a fiesta atmosphere with the “dirty ice cream” and Pinoy dishes served for guests. Seen at the party were guests from the world of politics, the academe, media and, of course, the culture and the arts, among them Philippine literature greats F. Sionil Jose and Rio Alma.

MANILA, Philippines – French President Francois Hollande, through French Ambassador Thierry Mathou, has bestowed upon Sen. Loren Legarda the title of Chevalier dans l’Ordre National de la Legion d’Honneur (Knight in the National Order of the French Legion of Honor).
The Legion of Honor is a French order established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 and is one of the most prestigious French distinctions. Legarda was given the award for her “truly invaluable contribution in strengthening the bilateral ties between Philippines and France.”

Senator Loren Legarda today said that in order to ensure the safety of our communities against natural hazards, the government must lead a whole-of-society approach to reducing disaster risks, preventing the creation of new risks and building resilience of local communities and the nation as a whole.
Legarda made the statement as the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) released a study that showed 2015 was the hottest year on record and the Philippines ranked fourth among countries hit by the most number of disasters caused by natural hazards in 2015.

Three days before Valentine’s Day, the environmentalist and culture advocate Senator Loren Legarda invited close friends to her post-birthday dinner held in the beautiful outdoor gardens of the Baluarte de San Diego, which she and the Intramuros Administration helped restore inside the Spanish colonial era’s old Walled City of Intramuros, Manila. This baluarte was completed sometime between 1653 and 1663 and is shaped like an ace of spades.
By the way, advance congratulations to Senator Loren Legarda for being bestowed the prestigious “Chevalier dans l’Ordre National de la Légion d’honneur” by the government of France this coming Feb. 18.
