MANILA — Three-term senator, now Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda, has filed a bill seeking to develop and implement an ecosystem and natural accounting system that applies to the Philippine environment, giving importance to the role, value, and impact of the country’s natural resources on the economy.
“For decades, the debate has been whether to choose economy over conservation of natural resources. This is a false dichotomy. The economy and all of society are fully and entirely dependent on natural resources—our natural capital that includes our forests, wetlands, and other ecosystems,” Legarda said.

A lawmaker on Friday filed a measure that seeks to create an ecosystem and natural accounting system in a bid to protect the natural resources of the country during the health crisis.
“For decades, the debate has been whether to choose the economy over conservation of natural resources. This is a false dichotomy,” Loren Legarda, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, said. “The economy and all of society are fully and entirely dependent on resources — our natural capital that include our forests, wetlands, and other ecosystems.”
Bilang paggunita sa Araw ng Kagitingan, kinilala ni Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda ang mga bagong bayani ng bansa: mga doktor, nurse, health workers, pulis at miyembro ng Armed Forces ng Pilipinas, mga guro, mga utility staff, mga nagtatrabaho sa mga groceries, mga drivers at riders na naghahatid ng pagkain at mga kargamento, mga mangingisda at magsasaka, mga nagtitinda sa mga pamilihan, mga mamamahayag, mga security guard, mga OFW, at ang mga dedikadong mga kawani ng pamahalaan na walang pagod na tumutupad sa kanilang tungkulin sa gitna ng kinakaharap na krisis pangkalusugan.
