Alarmed over the high number of children working as domestic workers, Senator Loren Legarda today said that the government, in close coordination with concerned non-governmental organizations, must eliminate child labor, stressing that the nation already has the laws in place to do so.

Senator Loren Legarda today called for a more vigorous promotion of self-employment to address unemployment in the country, which rose to 7.5% in April amid a 7.8% growth in the economy during the first quarter of 2013.
“Viable employment alternatives such as self-employment, particularly on micro enterprise activities, will strongly complement the overall provision of jobs for the growing workforce that is so dependent on wage employment,” she said.
