Senator Loren Legarda today urged the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to create culture-based vocational courses as part of efforts to support indigenous peoples (IPs) and promote Philippine culture.
 
Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Cultural Communities, made the statement at the opening of the Conference on Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for Indigenous People of the ASEAN held today at Bayleaf Hotel in Intramuros, Manila.

Check out weaving demo today at National Museum

Almost every weekend, Sen. Loren Legarda invites an indigenous group with a dying fabric-making tradition to do a demonstration of their weaving techniques.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Hibla Gallery of the National Museum, the Mandaya folk from Barangay Sangab, Caraga town in Davao Oriental, will demonstrate their weaving.
The Mandaya is one of the indigenous communities living in the Mount Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary that was recently inscribed by the Unesco as a World Heritage Site.

Senator Loren Legarda invites citizens to a weaving demonstration by Mandayas from Davao Oriental at the National Museum on November 15-16, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
 
Legarda, patron of the country’s first permanent textile gallery,Hibla ng Lahing Filipino, said that Mandayas from Barangay Sangab in the Municipality of Caraga, Davao Oriental will demonstrate the dagmay weaving.
