To help prevent oceans from carrying more plastic than fish as projected in one study, Sen. Loren B. Legarda on Thursday again called for the regulation of the use of plastic bags in the country.

Legarda made the statement after the Ellen MacArthur Foundation released a report, titled “The New Plastics Economy: Rethinking the Future of Plastics”, which revealed that the world produced 20 times more plastic in 2014 (311 million tons) than in 1964 (15 million tons). At this rate, the report said oceans are expected to contain more plastic than fish (by weight) by year 2050.
